Fishing small and light for predators can be hugely satisfying especially if the bites are hard to come across with bigger lures. Pair up this fishing style with an ultra lightweight rod and small 1000 size reel and you will be smiling all day long, and if a bigger fish happens to come along then hold on because its about to get a bit crazy! Even small fish under 1lb can put up a bit of a scrap on a balanced set up… Satisfaction guaranteed!

A whole host of micro jigs heads and lures for you to have some fun with! You can go a lot smaller than this if you really want to but we have found that even the smallest perch cannot resist a small spikey or slick shad!

You want the jig head to be as light as possible for regular canal and still water work to make sure you lure gets a much ‘hang time’ as possible. Heavier weights are available if fishing deep and you want to get your lure down to the bottom or if you are fishing a river with some heavy flow.

*The Fox Rage micro Jig heads are made of a very fine wire gauge, it is still plenty strong enough to handle bigger fish but it ensures perfect presentation on the lighter lures.*

*There are two different size hooks available; size 2 and size 4. These should cover all lures from around 50mm and up to 70mm.*

*Use these jig heads in the same way as any other jig head; Measure the hook against the plastic.*

*Make a small ‘nick’ where the back of the hook goes to so you know where the hook point needs to exit. Then thread on your plastic and bring the point of where you made the ‘nick’.*

*Spikey shads are a HF favourite for canals, especially the Red Head!*

*70mm Slick Shads work a treat as well to really imitate small fry and bait fish.*

**Swimmy** mini fat shads are one of Jon’s favorite lures with a very realistic movement and great colour selection!

*The new 5.5cm Squirmz from Korum are amazing and perfect for micro fishing. They are also available pre-rigged on 5g jig heads, but I would prefer to use a lighter jighead personally.*

*For a leader I would go with about 3ft of 0.20mm fluorocarbon. Its nice and thin which makes it nearly invisible to the fish. To tie it on thread the fluoro through the eye of the jighead….*

*Double it over like above then wrap it round its self 5-6 times.*

*Thread the tag end through the loop at the top, moisten it and tighten down.*

tie a figure of eight loop knot in the other end to attach to your braid.

*Perch love a micro jig, especially when it has a Red Head Spikey on it!*

Give Micro Jig head fishing a try, you will certainly not be disappointed in the fun you can have!
