This is my favourite go to rig when fishing through the summer months. It’s most effective when casting to an island margin or any feature out in the pond.
This time of year 2mm pellets seem to work the best with an enhancer liquid which will help to draw the fish down through the water column. Sometimes mixing ground bait with the pellets can really be an edge if the fish are being tricky to catch. I normally use a bright colored Bandum bottom bait or wafter which I think helps the fish pick up my hook quicker especially if the method feeder gets knocked around. I’ve had some really big hits of fish using this method; from Carp, F1’s and Bream, the action can be explosive so remember to loosen your drag!
Here’s how I set it up……..
First you need to prepare the bait; Pour your required amount of micro pellets into a strainer. Then cover them in water. The warmer the water the quicker the reaction time. If you have warm water 45 seconds will be long enough, cooler water will take a little longer.
Strain the water out of the pellets, empty them into a bait tub and leave them to rest for around 10 minutes.
Add any liquids you may want to use to boost the attraction, in this case I am using the matching Sticky Pellet Syrup.
Rig Time! Thread your mainline though a method feeder. Size and shape will vary on venue and conditions but a good average size is the Drennan 15g small method feeder.
Tie a figure of eight loop knot in the end and trim the tag-end. loop it onto the method connect and close the sleeve.
Taker your preferred rig, in this case I am using a 3.5″ Drennan Method Bandit size 14 with a bait band. Loop it onto the other end of the method connector, close the sleeve back and push the connector up into the method feeder.
Attach your chosen hookbait, in this case it is a banded Swim Stim Match Mini. Loosely fill the feeder mold with your pellets.
Compress the pellets with you feeder so they all stick to the feeder.
Add some more pellets and your hookbait to the feeder then compress again with your feeder.
Once you remove it you will have a perfectly formed feeder with the hookbait showing and no pellets falling away.
The feeder should stay intact until it lands on the lake bed. All the pellets will expand more and fall away over the course of 5 minutes or so.
